We love trying new restaurants when we travel. On our way to southern Florida, we stopped in Ocoee/Orlando and had lunch at Ellie Lou’s Brews & BBQ. The place was on fire! We were surprised to learn it was a single-location restaurant.

The décor was rustic and southern. On the walls were antique wooden items and plaques. The menu was written in chalk on boards high on the walls. An electronic board on one wall displayed flames.

The staff talks to you like a mix of Ed Debevic’s and Jimmy John’s. Ellie Lou’s had great food and great sauces. We enjoyed watching our group try all the sauces, working their way up to the hot ones.

Ellie Lou’s says their BBQ pays tribute to three regions of BBQ: the Midwest, Texas, and the Carolinas. A reviewer said the owner trained at Disney, and it does show. We enjoy unique items, and that’s how we would describe the turducken burger. We also enjoy the children’s menu being called Lil’ Rascals. The staff came to our table numerous times to ask about our meal and to remove dishes and paper items.

It was a great experience and we did feel at home, since the Midwest did have an influence on their BBQ. The restaurant was fairly new — only a year old. They have the makings of being successful. Try them out.
