Way to Go, Ms. Coach!

You didn’t think we were going to pass this one up, did you? We were so excited when the NFL added a female referee last year. This year, the Arizona Cardinals football team added a female NFL coach. What is this world coming to? Equity or something like that?

Jen Welter is the new coach. She’s been in sports a long time and played rugby at Boston College, played 14 seasons in women's pro football, and was the first woman to play a non-kicking position in a men's pro league — as a running back for the Texas Revolution of Indoor Football League. Awesome!

Now she will impart her football wisdom with inside linebackers as a training camp/preseason intern coach. She also has a master's degree in sports psychology and a Ph.D. in psychology. Look out, boys — she will have you figured out and use all that training to motivate you.

This story is a nice balance to the Tom Brady punishment for deflated footballs. This story about the first female NFL coach is a good PR piece for the NFL and shows hard work and effort pay off. It shows that experience and training are valued, and it is great reinforcement for young people that you can do whatever you set your mind to.

So go out there and be the first at something. Then be the best at something. Then keep doing it!
