Disney and Marvel make quite a team. As do Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and other costumed characters. The new Avengers movie opened worldwide preceding the U.S. opening this weekend and smashed box office records. Why do people care so much for fictitious characters?

Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man is quite captivating. Any of the Iron Man sequels have our interest. We love his character, charisma, and humor that really works to keep our attention. Add to Iron Man the beautiful Thor and his hammer, and you have started to create a cast that brings in viewers of all ages. These characters allow us to enjoy something from our childhood that is still cool.

Marvel on its own is quite impressive with how they have kept these characters alive through all these years. Disney — well, what can you say about the marketing masterminds there? Bring the two together and you have a movie powerhouse. Now add in a cast of characters that have loyal followers and you have widespread appeal.

The openings in all major non-U.S. markets beat their aggressive projections and this is set to be one of the highest grossing movies of the duo team. Sometimes joining forces can be strong, but this is a powerhouse of characters. Disney and Marvel have it all.
