Draft Day has become one of our favorite movies. Kevin Costner and Jennifer Garner are the leading actors in a story about the NFL’s draft. We like the writing where Kevin Costner chooses his picks based on character as well as skill. We also like Garner’s line where she asks why in the most macho sport is the biggest prize a piece of jewelry! Garner plays a woman who truly loves football. There are others who love football, including the first full-time NFL female referee, who is named Sarah Thomas.

We don’t actively campaign on women’s issues, but we do acknowledge there are still inequalities that exist between women and men. So when it was voting day this week, we went to the polls for two reasons. We went to honor all the women who went before us to make voting possible for women. We also went to voice our views on the items on the ballot.

In the same way, we applaud a woman who has worked her way through the ranks of officiating to make it to the NFL as a referee. This is a good PR move for the NFL. Women are a big sports audience. To allow a woman on the field in football is significant and terrific. We believe it is more than a PR move. We believe Sarah Thomas is truly qualified and the best person for the job. As a result, we respect Thomas for her skill and her tenacity, and we respect the NFL for hiring her.
