Mophie, the smartphone battery pack maker, rescued smartphone users with dead or low batteries at South by Southwest (SXSW), the annual music, film, and interactive conference and festival held in Austin. To stand out in the crowd, especially a crowd of 72,000 people, you have to be creative. Mophie did stand out with their St. Bernard rescues.

Mophie said they were inspired by tales of St. Bernard rescue dogs in the Swiss Alps. So for three days at SXSW, the Mophie Rescue Team dispatched Saint Bernard dogs each hour from 12 p.m. through 7 p.m. to save those in need of a charge. Their rescue plan had three components. 1. Mophie asked people to tweet @mophie using #mophieRescue with their current location and a screen shot of their smartphone's battery icon. 2. Mophie’s social media team determined which were the neediest cases and tweeted back to the winners a link to their interactive map to track the Mophie Rescue St. Bernard’s location in real time. 3. They promoted rescuing St. Bernards by telling people to go to the Mophie Rescue Lodge.

The Mophie Rescue plan had some great components. It used social media. It promoted their app. It showed kindness. It promoted their product while also promoting animal rescue. It was good.
