Just Ask the Google App

In our house the phrase, “Just Google it!” is overused. But there is a reason for that. It works. Google has become the go-to resource for directions, phone numbers, and information. On an Android smartphone, they teach you how to use the Google app as part of your phone training. Google is promoting their Google app today on their search engine, with their subtle, under-the-search-bar line of “When family trivia nights gets competitive, there’s the Google app."

Clicking on this call to action takes you to a page that shows you how simple it is to ask for directions, sign up for a reminder, get the weather forecast, ask a nutrition question, and ask a food question. In our house, our uncle used it to get an image to show of the AWACS plane he flew in the service. We use it to settle disputes and to get information on how to sync Wii remotes. It has become our encyclopedia of sorts. Remember those?

Apple users have Siri, the lovely sounding lady who answers your questions. Android users have the Google app. The more times Google can train us to use their app, the more viewers they have. The more viewers Google has, the more valuable the advertising becomes to companies. Google is doing a service to its users by making it fast and easy to find information. Google is also helping advertisers get to the people that may want their services. In the end, Google makes money too. Maybe we all win with the Google app.
