Creative Hemingway 15-Second Instagram Movies

Literary Classics are just that — classics. One hopes that every person reads them at least once. Thanks to our school English programs, many of us have read the classics — or at least some of them. One of our personal favorite authors is Ernest Hemingway. When we learned that his classics had been super condensed into 15-second Instagram videos, we were excited. You may be too!

During high school, to increase my ranking, I undertook an independent study with my English teacher on Ernest Hemingway. We read every one of his books and some of his poems. His short, pithy writing style has always been attractive, and we even attempted to write in his style for some Hemingway contests. Suffice it to say we really enjoy Hemingway’s works. 

How do you get someone from a younger generation as excited about Hemingway? You go where they are and you do it in a way that appeals to them. The Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park, Illinois partnered with Ogilvy & Mather Chicago to create a series of 15-second Instagram videos that re-enact entire Hemingway novels. The goal was to intrigue potential readers.

It’s too soon to tell how successful these Instagram movies will be, but it seems like they have the right formula. Super creativity and focus.
