Who needs keys when you have a smartphone? Enter Smart Lock, the next generation of door locks. .

Everyone has misplaced their keys. Lost their keys!  Forgot their keys. Even had their keys placed around their necks as kids. Yet no matter where you are in the world, it’s the worst thing to the world to lose your keys. So what do you do? It’s easy, my comrades. Call the good tech-folk at August and buy one of their Smart Locks. It’s an app-based door lock that can get you back in the house in a matter of seconds.

I know the world is starting to look more and more like something out of a Star Wars movie, but you can’t be mad at our computer scientists, who are actually trying to improve our lives with tech that actually serves a great purpose: getting in your house when you’re locked out. Smart Lock is an AA battery–powered, smartphone-controlled lock that allows its owner to use Bluetooth technology to open their doors at home. It gives them the opportunity to assign various users access for entry, which comes in handy. Say you’ve left the stove on in a rush to get the kiddies to school. No worries; call your neighbor and ask them if they can turn it off. Give them an access password. They walk up, send a signal from their smartphone, and presto! You’re in the clear.

Furthermore, the lock is not too techy,  ‘cause it has a traditional face that has a key, and you can manually unlock your door from inside your home as well. Smart Lock costs $199.00, which is a small one-time investment for having the power to access your home when you need to. Some people are complaining about the future of technology and saying we may become too dependent on it, but just think of the applications for moms worldwide. When she gets the “Mom I lost my keys!” speech, she doesn’t have to send her kid next door or to grandma’s any more. All mom has to do is lay down the law about not losing keys again and then give them a password to access the house. Plus, it comes with a guestbook and the ability to send yourself reminder notes for things you have to do around the house.

August just released the Smart Lock in September of this year, and it’s doing fairly well. I guess great things can change the world when you get a group of “Smarty Pants” together.
