Have you ever thought about putting up orange cones to save your parking spot for someone? Or considered standing or lying in the parking spot to save it? An app called Monkey Parking allows you to post your parking spot and let people bid on it. It is available only in San Francisco and Rome and is getting some heat in San Fran.

#needaparkingspot? If you are in San Fran, it is an issue. The idea of reserving a parking spot is a good one. You can reserve just about everything else, so why not reserve a parking spot and make your plans seamless? You make a bid and reserve your parking spot. You pay via Stripe once you park. Seems like a good idea.

San Francisco’s City Attorney doesn’t think the idea is so great. He has asked Monkey Parking to cease and desist, since buying and selling public parking is not allowed. He is also concerned about people texting and bidding on these spots while they are driving. No texting while driving, please!

The beauty of app development is that people can come up with an idea and put it out there for the public to decide. The developers of Monkey Parking saw a need and an opportunity and developed the app. Good marketing is all about meeting customer needs. The developers just need to abide by the laws as well.
