Pack the diapers, wipes, formula, bottles, snacks, bibs, toys, books, change of clothes. Pick up the baby, and oh yeah, remember to bring the car seat. When traveling with an infant, there is so much to pack. Forget about bringing many of the parents’ personal items, there’s no room and no hand to carry it. Volvo just announced they are developing an inflatable rear-facing car seat that is only 11 pounds. That would make traveling so much easier!

Volvo has long been recognized as a brand noted for safety. Their automobiles consistently make the list of safest cars. For most parents, child safety is the #1 priority. Anything with the Volvo name would meet this safety priority. So, the new inflatable car seat by Volvo is very exciting. Unbeknownst to many, Volvo has been designing car seats for over 50 years. This particular design would make traveling in cars, taxis, planes, and trains so much more manageable. The car seat can be folded up into a backpack.

Since the users of this car seat cannot talk, we can only imagine that the inflatable concept would tend to be more comfortable than the hard plastic car seats that have only a little foam and a cover. The air cushion should make long trips more bearable for the youngsters. Whether it would spring a leak is a consideration, but it is designed with strong boating materials and infants don’t play with sharp objects. Siblings could be an issue if they sit nearby, however.

An interesting feature is that this inflatable car seat can be remotely inflated with its Bluetooth connection if the 40 seconds to inflate it while you are present is just too long. The Bluetooth connection would be neat if it could allow junior to listen to Raffi or Mozart on the ride. The inflatable car seat would be a useful product for grandparents and other caretakers. Interestingly, performing a Google search on inflatable car seats, Target pops up second from the top in a paid ad for inflatable car seats. None of the car seats listed on their page are inflatable, so maybe they just got excited too?!
