Obama’s Exciting Presidential Brand

The Presidential Brand has many, many components. The newest brand component is made up of the Presidential Ambassadors for Global Entrepreneurship. In the United States, where the American dream built this country to greatness, the dream has faded. The President is turning a new page in efforts to bring back that dream with the Presidential Ambassadors for Global Entrepreneurship (PAGE), both in this country and abroad.

Entrepreneurs and government don’t always go together. President Obama hopes to change that as he asks these highly successful entrepreneurs to work with policymakers to establish an environment conducive to more entrepreneurial development. The buzzwords used in the Department of Commerce’s release (they started the project) are electric: outreach, mentorship, creativity, innovation, energize, challenge, inspire, connect, grassroots, commitment, spark, learn, and benefit.

The list of the 11 ambassadors also is impressive and comprehensive. It includes women, people of color, and various ethnicities. The ambassadors make up an entrepreneurial melting pot. How fitting.

The PAGE Chair and Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker is a Hyatt hotel heiress whose personal net worth exceeds $3 billion. She understands building a business into something significant (quite understated). She feels “our entrepreneurial spirit is also one of America’s greatest exports”. When we worry about Asian markets taking over some of our expertise, this entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to take an idea and build it into a business reminds us that this is truly an American thing, an American strength. Sure, it happens elsewhere, but not to the extent that it happens in the good ole U.S.A. Exporting our spirit is truly innovative.

Tying the Presidential Brand to global entrepreneurship is definitely exciting. The outreach of mentorship with creativity and innovation will energize people to challenge and inspire each other as they connect at a grassroots level. This commitment will spark learning and bring about huge benefit to all.
