Oprah and Starbucks to Offer Teavana Oprah Chai Tea

What’s new? Isn’t that the statement we usually ask our friends when we get together? How are you and then what’s new? The answer Starbucks has to that question is Teavana Oprah Chai Tea.

Starbucks is doing well these days. They are noted for their innovation and their sales since Howard Schultz took over as CEO. He continued on that track when he secured a partnership with Oprah Winfrey.

Oprah decided to put her name on some Teavana tea offered at Starbucks and Teavana. Through her tea tasting/blending session she revealed that she likes spicy chai tea. She was also told to slurp tea in the tasting. (Maybe you will start to hear slurpers at Starbucks in the future.) She was looking for a robust, fuller-body tea that has a kick to it. She ended up adding more pepper and ginger to find the perfect blend. Watch the video

Beginning April 29, Teavana Oprah Chai will be available in Starbucks and Teavana stores across the U.S. and Canada, with Starbucks making a donation for each product sold to the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation to benefit educational opportunities for youth. Like we are seeing in so many areas of business, a philanthropic part of the equation is included. It brought Oprah in, and so many Starbucks customers value charitable giving.

Starbucks, Teavana, and Oprah are all strong brands individually. Putting them all together creates a synergistic power brand. It’s a relationship that seemed to click instantly. It will be interesting to see the Oprah effect on tea.
