Sometimes Buying Local is Better Than Online

Some things are better in person. Live concerts are better than watching YouTube. The book signing by Donald Driver was better up close and personal than watching it on the news. (Classy guy with some huge biceps!) On Valentine’s Day if flowers are in order, finding a local floral shop to deliver your roses or special arrangement might be better than ordering online.

Yahoo! Finance blogger Vera Gibbons did a study on the best online floral delivery services. She compared delivery between 1-800-flowers.com, Proflowers.com, Teleflora, FTD, and a local florist. Most of the online floral deliveries turned out to be disappointing, with results ranging from wilted flowers to late delivery. The highest satisfaction came from the local florist delivery.

What does this say? Sometimes buying local can be better than buying online. The local florist still needed to be found via an Internet search, but their site didn’t need to be more glitzy than the rest. The local florist just needed to ensure timely delivery with fresh flowers. Since they have the opportunity to rehydrate their flowers before delivering and the quality they deliver determines repeat business, they are a natural choice in this scenario.

So search online and find your local florist. Order your sweetheart or loved one (moms count too!) a bouquet or long-stem roses. The florist and your family will thank you!
