Don’t Get Sick, Just Peel and Stick

Yahoo just followed up on a company to see how they are doing since turning down a $4 million offer for their business on Shark Tank in 2010. The company is First Defense Nasal Screens. They offer a self-adhering nasal filter and use the tagline, “When you feel sick, do you peel and stick?”

For those not familiar with Shark Tank, it is a reality TV show where entrepreneurs pitch their product to a panel of potential investors called Sharks. The owner of First Defense Nasal Screens was offered $4 million but turned it down. This company was part of an Intuit contest to win a 2014 Super Bowl commercial but didn’t make it to the final four.

The company, First Defense Holdings, has distributors in the U.S. with the most in California. Its overseas partners are in many countries, some of which are Belgium, Germany, Canada, Ireland, Serbia, and Mexico.

The product is unique in the personal air filtration market. Alternative are a dust mask which can make breathing difficult or products that get inserted into the nostril. The nasal screen is small, effective, and is applied to the outer part of the nose. First Defense Nasal Screens solve a problem for people working in dusty conditions and for those who suffer from allergies.

Their branding is a little unclear and their social media activity is relatively weak. Their Intuit commercial write-up had a typo as well. They have a unique product, but could really benefit from some branding expertise.
