Giving Christmas Wings: Red Bull’s RC Cars

I was watching Bloomberg West the other day and after my darling Emily Chang got through speaking, I was left with the total boredom of business advertising  Now, I know that may sound crazy coming from an ad guy, but let’s be real…some ads will put you to sleep.

I will attest to that in a focus group for free. I can’t wait to become a judge at Cannes. Or start an org dedicated to protesting against bad ads. Anyway, after going through my creative rant, suddenly creative genius came across my screen. I didn’t know if I was watching a Hobby Lobby commercial or what. Yet right in front of me was an ad from Red Bull promoting their remote-control cars. Christmas is here!

So my first thought was, “Cool.” Somebody has Red Bull remote-control cars that you can build from scratch. Still, I am looking for a Toy ‘R Us logo, only available at Wal-Mart, brought to you by somebody. When the spot ended it was simply promoted by Red Bull.

In the words of my dear friends from Hogwarts…brilliant! A beautiful promotional tie-in of Red Bull’s strategy to celebrate the extreme through the racing of off-road remote-control cars at Christmastime with their partners at Model-Space.com.

How sweet is that? Red Bull is talking to an active audience of business executives who need a Red Bull to get their wings back during the day while also giving them a cool gift idea for the next generation of Red Bull drinkers. Plus you and the kids can build it together. So basically us older guys get the chance to be 10 again on Christmas.

The car itself is super cool. You can put nitro in it! It’s an exact replica of the car made by famous Formula One driver Sebastian Vettel. It's fast and furious without the gunshots. Can we all say “awesome”? Plus, you get a fuel tank too. If Santa isn’t real, then I’m telling my kids to send their Christmas lists to Red Bull headquarters to get some cool gifts.

Overall, it’s a great way to extend Red Bull’s brand presence during the holidays. Who needs Rudolph when Red Bull can get you soaring for the season of giving?
