Mayday, mayday! How often have you wished you could say that and help appears? State Farm Insurance plays on this theme with their commercials showing people in trouble calling for their State Farm agent. Kindle Fire HDX has an actual mayday button on its tablet with a live person appearing on-screen to assist.

Companies have found many ways to help customers. The original way was snail mail — write a letter to a company and get back a response or satisfaction to your question or complaint. Email customer service came next with many companies offering 24 hour response or better. Live chat has been successfully used by many companies. It offers real-time assistance through messaging in a pop-up window. Twitter has also been used to respond to customers and satisfy complaints. The Mayday button is new!

The Kindle Fire HDX by Amazon is going head to head with Apple's iPad. The HDX resolution and processor speed are both fantastic and the price is lower than the iPad, yet Amazon is setting itself apart with the user-friendly Mayday button. Now HDX users can have their personal tech expert from the comfort of their own home. This is a tech support video chat system. Amazon’s goal is to answer calls within 15 seconds. The Mayday advisor can see the screen and draw on the screen to help answer questions. This follows along with the Chinese proverb, “Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand.”

The Mayday button will keep the Kindle Fire HDX users happy. Keeping the users happy will not only grow their usage and loyalty to the brand, but it will make them more likely to go out and recommend the HDX to other potential power users. That’s a win-win.
